Conference on Good Governance for Active and Healthy Ageing
Active and healthy ageing seeks to ensure that older people can play an active role trough longer working lives, active participation in their communities and by remaining healthy and independent as long as possible. This will be crucial to enable Europe to cope with rapid demographic ageing.
The European Union is promoting active and healthy ageing trough different initiatives, and in particular the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing and the European Year 2012 for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. To be successful, both initiatives need to mobilise a broad range of stakeholders and different levels of governance.
The purpose of the conference is to look at how different levels of government can cooperate in designing effective and comprehensive strategies for active and healthy ageing. It aims to bring together different levels of governance and stakeholders so that they can move forward jointly, each acting in their respective areas of competence.
Thus, the conference seeks to prepare the ground for the development of integrated strategies for active ageing to be adopted in the wake of the European Year 2012 for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.

• Monday June 4, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
