Environs of discrimination or WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?
-
In employment and profession
It is considered discrimination if, based on religion, a person is treated unfavorably in application for employment, awarded less compensation for equal work, provided unjustifiably lower work conditions than others, or intimidated for their faith by bullies in the workplace. It would also be discriminatory if the trade authority caused trouble for a new business selling Buddhist occult items and literature in town XX.
-
In school
Bullying by schoolmates, unfavorable grading from teachers, or non-acceptance at entrance exams is considered discrimination. Inappropriate treatment during an oral exam by a university teacher directed against a Muslim female student for her different outfit and behavior is discriminatory.

In healthcare

-
In social affairs
Not accepting (i.e.) a homeless person for accommodation at a homeless shelter only because he/she worships some “weird religion”, is considered discriminatory.
-
In products and services provision
It counts as discrimination if a business-owner of an apartment building refuses to rent a room in the building to a religious group with no reasonable argument but that “the religion is unsympathetic” for him/her.
-
At offices
The refusal or fabrication of bureaucratic obstacles in the registration of a religious community even though the community has met all legally established preconditions is considered discrimination, as well as the unjustifiable less favorable treatment provided to members of an unregistered church in favor of those of registered churches.
-
At the police, in court
It is discriminatory for police to provide ineffective legal protection against the violation of religious freedom for some religious communities, or to molest people of differing beliefs during Passport control at an airport.
-
In other situations
The refusal of the youth organization “Turista” (“Traveler”) to admit a follower of “a weird religion” as a new member, although the organization’s statute allows everybody equal membership.
